Ode to Amrita Sher-Gil

Drents Museum, Assen, Netherlands
3 April 2026 – 20 September 2026
Group exhibition

Natasja Kensmil will contribute to the upcoming exhibition Ode to Amrita Sher-Gil – Masterpieces from Dutch Museums at the Drents Museum in Assen. This exhibition, opening on April 3, 2026, celebrates the life and work of the iconic Hungarian-Indian artist Amrita Sher-Gil, exploring themes of identity, freedom, connection, and love.

The Drents Museum’s initiative follows the postponement of the major retrospective Amrita Sher-Gil: “Europe belongs to Picasso, India belongs to me,” originally scheduled for March 2026. In its place, Ode to Amrita Sher-Gil will provide visitors with an opportunity to engage with Sher-Gil’s themes through the lens of Dutch artists and collections.

Natasja Kensmil’s participation underscores the exhibition’s exploration of cultural and artistic connections across time and geography. Her work, often inspired by historical narratives and power structures, adds a compelling contemporary perspective to the tribute.
